NEW TENURE LAWS
Frequently Asked Questions

Chapter 70 of the public acts of 2011 made significant revisions to the laws regarding tenure for public school teachers in Tennessee. (Details, Download FAQ)

NEW COLLABORATIVE
CONFERENCING LAW

On June 1, 2011, Governor Haslam signed into law the Professional Educators Collaborative Conferencing Act (PECCA). The PECCA replaces the Education Professional Negotiations Act (EPNA), effectively substituting collaborative conferencing for Tennessee’s traditional collective bargaining process.  While there are some similarities between the two laws, the PECCA is substantially different from the EPNA, creating new avenues of communication between teachers and school boards and stressing inclusiveness of all professional employees’ organizations. Frequently Asked Questions

NEW GRADUATES LICENSURE INFORMATION
What "Pending"  means to first time license application (message adapted from email received from Vance Rugaard, Executive Director, Teacher)

Tennessee "traditional" teacher preparation programs produce about 3500 new grads per year.  The vast majority of these are spring graduates and their applications for initial licensure arrive at the SDE in May and June.  Obviously, it takes a good deal of time to process all of these applications. This article explains the State Department of Education's new graduate license approval process and hopes to alleviate apprehension while waiting for that first teaching license.
